ABSTRACT

Hefriansyah. 2014. “Teaching Reading Comprehension through Cloze Procedure to the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja”. Thesis, English Education Study Program, Sarjana Degree (S1), Faculty of Teacher Traning and Education Islamic University of OKI (UNISKI) Kayuagung. Advisor (I) Drs. H. A. This thesis was entitled“Teaching Reading Comprehension through Cloze Procedure to the Tenth Grade Students of SMA Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja”. The main purpose of this study was to find out whether or not it was effective to use cloze procedure in teaching reading comprehension through cloze procedure to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja. The problem of this study was: “Is there any significant in reading comprehension between the students who are taught through cloze procedure and that of those who are not?. The hypoteses of this study were (1) Null hypothesis (Ho) There was no significant difference in reading comprehension between the students who were taught through cloze procedure and that those who were not (2) Alternative hypothesis (Ha) There was a significant difference in reading comprehension between the students who were taught through cloze procedure and that of those who were not. The population of this study was all of tenth grade of students SMA Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja with the total numbers 97 students from three classes. The sample of this study was 64 students which were divided in to two groups, there were experimental and control group. The number of sample of each group was 32 students. The data obtained were analyzed by match t-test analyzes adn the calculations was done by SPSS 15. The resoult of the independent sample t-test for the post-test that compared the students’ score in the experimental group and the control group, the value of t-obtained was 2.491, at the significant level p<0,05 in  two tailed testing with df=62, the critical value of t-table =1.999. Since the value of t-obtained was higher than critical value of t-table, (Ho) was rejected and (Ha) was accepted or t- t-obtained (2.491) was higher than t-table (1.999). it meant that cloze procedure was effectively used in teaching reading comprehension to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Tanjung Raja.
